I had a piece of felt left over from making a hat. The hat was trimmed when it was nearly fulled so the scrap I had wouldn’t easily integrate into another piece of felt. I had a long, narrow strip that looked a bit like a scrap of raw dough left over from making pie. I sewed some random doodles on the felt with a free-motion embroidery foot, and then I coiled the strip into a cylinder and sewed the edges together with zig-zag stitch, also by machine. Here’s the result — you can see where the coil of fabric begins at the left. The strip of felt tapered at both ends so it created a pretty good approximation of a cylinder.
It was a fun exercise in making something useful or decorative out of scrap. And it keeps my wrist warm.
